The work evaluated the role of vascular endothelial growth factor in the implantation and proliferation of ectopic endometrium in experimental models. The study confirmed the leading role of pro-angiogenic factors in the induction and stimulation of endometrial ectopic lesions. Under the impact of the blockade stimulus of VEGF a decline occurred in endometrioid lesions and almost complete reduction of endometriosis. The work proves that the effect of the blockade stimulus VEGF is dependent on dose of Avastin®. We discuss the feasibility of clinical use of immunomodulators with antiangiogenic effect in treatment of endometriosis. Histological analysis indicated a positive dynamics – a tendency for normal amount of vessels, lack of macrophage and lymphocyte infiltration of perivascular spaces, as well as the almost complete disappearance of endometriosis in thin connective tissue fibers. After 4 intra-abdominal injections of Avastin (bevacizumab) in experimental animals histological methods demonstrated a gradual replacement of endometrial stromal elements on fibrous and sclerosal ones due to reduction of blood supply in endometriosis leading to atrophy of endometrial tissue and fibrosis of the surrounding tissues.
