The psychological reasons and countermeasures for nurses leaving their posts

The aim of this study was to find out the psychological reasons for nurses leaving their posts and then to solve the problem.A survey of nurse attitude toward their career of 241 nurses from 33 hospitals indicated that the main problems were :“physical and mental exhaustion”,“lack of being understood and respected”,“dim future”,“dissatisfaction with their career” and “tendency to change their professions in their later lives” .This indicates that there are more nurses who will quit their posts.Improving the objective conditions and enhance management are of great urgency.The proposed countermeasures are:on the one hand,promote their professional consciousness,technology and skill,and improve nursing qualilty so as to form a good professional image and manners .On the other hand,improve hospital and social circumstances,enlarge the nurses'service scope so that nursing can be a life long profession,raise their social status,and keep the nursing profession developing constantly.
