The influence of rotating wheels on the external aerodynamic performance of a vehicle

In order to accurately predict the aerodynamic performance of an entire vehicle using CFD it is widely accepted that it is necessary to have a good representation of the flow field around and through the wheel and tyre. There is a general trend within industry towards increased use of unsteady methods to improve correlation to physical test results which has improved the ability of CFD to model wheel wake flow structures.
