Effect of Nanoparticle on Pitting Wear during the Oil Lubrication Condition

2019
The machine efficiency of the components can be extended by avoiding pitting damages to the component surface. The goal of this study was to understand the development and change of pitting characteristics due to environment particles. Using circulation lubricants comprising different water content and different weight percentages of particles, The experimental results of four-ball test show that higher the particle density is, larger the pitting wear area, the lower the scuffing load value under step load procedures. Lubricant with low particle density below 0.05 wt%, Regardless of Al2O3 and SiO2, oil temperature and friction coefficient have a recovery effect at high load during step load procedures.
