The invention discloses a method for improving the material recognition capacity of a dual-energy radiation system. The method comprises the steps that dual-energy scanning detection is carried out on a test sample of a first type and a first thickness; when detected data are inconsistent with the test sample, the pulse number ratio or pulse dosage ratio of the dual-energy radiation system is adjusted till the detected data are consistent with the test sample, and the pulse number ratio or pulse dosage ratio is adopted as the work ratio of the dual-energy radiation system during formal scanning. The invention further discloses the dual-energy radiation system. The optimal material recognition state of the dual-energy radiation system can be obtained, scanning inspection is carried out in the state, and the material recognition capacity of the dual-energy radiation system is greatly improved.
