Biological Insecticides against okra insect pests

2017
For decades synthetic chemicals have been the principle agent used for pest management. But, now there is a growing awareness and consciousness regarding the negative repercussions of indiscriminate use of chemical pesticides like destruction of non-target organisms including natural enemies of insects, failure of pollination and associated crop losses, increasing resistance of pests and pest resurgence inflicting by the escalating application rates of chemicals on terrestrial and aquatic ecosystem. So, the need of the hour is the use of safer pest management measures that are self-perpetuating, free from residual side effects, easily bio-degradable, environment friendly with greater selectivity, low dosage of rates and has less harmful effect on non-target organisms. Biological origin insecticides may be one of such alternative to combat pest problem.
