Racismo y universidades en el Ecuador

2021
In this article, the racism in the Ecuadorian universities is analyzed from the review of the legal frameworks, practices and institutional procedures regarding access to higher education for indigenous and Afro-Ecuadorians, their permanence, their graduation and the incorporation of their knowledge and cosmovision. The conclusions indicate that despite the advances in the improvement of the higher education system and the declaration of the need for interculturality in the Constitution and the Organic Law of Higher Education, there is little interest on the part of universities to process the demands of the two ethnic groups; in addition, the interculturality does not constitute a transverse approach throughout the higher education system. The study shows as well that indigenous and Afro-Ecuadorians, particularly women, are still excluded from higher education, a fact that worsens the quality of life and increases the inequality gaps.
