The Prevalence of Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C and HIV among Medical Waste Workers in Khartoum State Hospitals, Sudan (2013 – 2016)

This descriptive study was done in Khartoum State Hospitals and the aimed to determine prevalence of HBV, HCV, and HIV among medical waste workers in period 2013 – 2016, Eight hospitals with different specialties and different size were selected in the study and 300 workers were involved in the study, all in filled questionnaire and blood sample for analysis hepatitis B, (HBV) hepatitis C (HCV) and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) using ELISA tests. , 27% of the workers were diagnosed to have hepatitis B before and 56, 7% were vaccinated against HBV. Prevalence of HBV, HCV and HIV among medical waste workers in this study is in the intermediate zone of endemicity, 5.7%, 0.3% and 0.7% respectively.
