Adsorption sites and surface reconstruction of the c(6×2)O/Cu(110) system : a SEXAFS study
1990
Polarization-dependent surface-extended X-ray absorption fine-structure (SEXAFS) measurements on the c(6 ? 2)O/Cu(110) system show the existence of two different adsorption sites: a long-bridge site along [001] Cu surface rows and a fourfold coordinated site on (100) microfacets close to the second layer. The data suggest a (3 ? 1) surface reconstruction of the missing-row type with two neighbouring [001] Cu surface rows and a [001] Cu row in the second layer missing. The result brings about new insights into the initial steps of oxidation.
