The Factors which effect the breast feeding in the infants who were admitted to the children clinic Objective: The objective of our study was to determine the nutrition error rate and research the factors which effect the nutrition in the infants who were admitted to the children clinic in our hospital within 1 year after birth. Materials and Methods: The study included infants born 144 term aging from 0 to 12 months who have applied to the children clinic from January to July 2002. The study group made a prospective evaluation by filling in a form with data such as age, sex, weight at birth, how it has been fed, mother's age and weight and height, mother's BMI, whether the mother is working or not, smoking or not, level of education, the socioeconomical status of the family, number of children in the family. Results: 38.8% of Infants younger than 4 months old and 35.2% of infants younger than 6 months old were having only breast feeding. 12.5% of infants younger than 4 months old were seen to be fed with nutrients such as cow milk, crackers, rice flour instead of breast feeding. Type of feeding was not being influenced by the BMI of the moth er, her education level, her working or not, the sex of the infant, or the socioeconomical status of the familiy. It has been determined that 60.4% of the infants were being fed correctly at the correct month There was no relation between education level and wrong feeding. Significant relationship has been determined between economical status and wrong feed ing. Conclusion: We believe that sending the uneducated mothers who visit the clinic for other reasons to the services which give education in breast feeding will increase the rate of breast feeding and decrease the errors in feeding.
