Cavernoglandular shunt : in the management of priapism.

1987
Various surgical procedures have been advocated in the management of priapism aimed at the immediate detumescence of priapus penis while preserving erectile function. Fifteen patients with a total of ninteen episodes of priapism were managed using caverno-glandu-lar shunts in our centre. In 3 patients, a total of 4 recurrent episodes were managed by repetition of the procedure. The outcome is comparable with the results of the other surgical procedures and the advantages of the procedure are outlined. In our experience, non-specific expectant treatment has no influence on detumescence.
