Electrodynamics and Matter

By the beginning of the \(20{\text {th}}\) century the classical physics of analytical mechanics and electrodynamics had been extremely successful in providing an understanding of the universe. There was little expectation that this would change radically as a result of a rather small discovery regarding the parcelling of energy in thermal radiation.
