Renal Aspects of Cardiac Intensive Care

Chapter 4 deals with the kidneys and disorders of renal function. Clinical and pathophysiological relationships of renal failure are described in the context of pediatric cardiac intensive care therapy. How the search for causes should be undertaken through history-taking, laboratory analyses, and differential diagnoses is explained. Diagnostic methods to find prerenal, postrenal, and, above all, renal causes are elucidated. A description is given of preventive measures along with the pharmacological- and apparatus-based treatment of acute renal failure on the ICU.
