Investigation and observation on the sleeping quality and mental health of nurses in general hospital

Objective To investigate the sleeping quality and mental health of nurses in general hospitals and its influencing factors.Method The sleeping quality and mental health of 180 nurses in 3 first-class general hospitals were investigated by Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index(PSQI),Self-Rating Depression Scale(SDS) and Self-Rating Anxiety Scale(SAS).Results The rate of sleep disorders was 38.9%.The difference of sleeping qualities in different professional titles and work shifts were significant.The rate was 46.7% and 17.2% for depression and anxiety,16.1% for both depression and anxiety.Sleeping quality has positive correlation with anxiety and depression.Conclusion The sleeping quality and mental state of nurses in general hospitals were worse than the domestic normal mode.It is necessary for hospital managers to take measures to improve nurses' sleeping quality and mental health which can improve the quality of nursing care delivery.
