Effect of H3BO3 on the low temperature sintering and microwave dielectric properties of Li2ZnTi3O8 ceramics

Abstract The effects of H 3 BO 3 addition on the sintering temperature, microstructure and microwave dielectric properties of Li 2 ZnTi 3 O 8 ceramics were investigated. With H 3 BO 3 addition, the densification of Li 2 ZnTi 3 O 8 ceramics was improved significantly, the sintering temperature was lowered effectively, and the τ f was adjusted to shift toward zero direction. In the case of 1.0 wt.% H 3 BO 3 addition, the value of e r and Q × f reached maximum. With further H 3 BO 3 addition, the dielectric properties were degraded due to the inferior microstructure. With 1.0 wt.% H 3 BO 3 , the Li 2 ZnTi 3 O 8 ceramics sintered at 880 °C for 4 h showed excellent microwave dielectric properties of e r = 25.9, Q × f = 50,200 GHz, and τ f = −6.8 ppm/°C.
