This study was some possibility that the variety of genetic quality of the Korean native black goat population might have been damaged because the small group of goat used in this study had been under highly intensive inbreeding with the aim of preserving its genetic resources and keeping the breed. Accordingly, this study was performed to estimate genetic characteristics and size of effective population of Korean native black goat using the genetic information of the group of goat of GNU strain population. The genetic information on Korean native black goat used by this study was Illumina Goat SNP 50k chip (Illumina, Inc., San Diego, CA). The linkage disequilibrium with adjoining markers of each chromosome was estimated to be 0.225. And, it was found that, as the distance between markers gets farther, linkage disequilibrium value gets smaller. It was also found that the effective population size of Korean native black goat becomes smaller with the increase of the number of its generations, and that the effective population size for the 13th generation is 29 heads. Considering the low linkage disequilibrium value and the small size of effective population of the group of goat of GNU strain population, we can assume that the group may have low variety of genetic resources. To solve such a problem, it seems necessary to adopt measures to do planned crossbreeding and increase the size of the group.
