A Study on Transient Sta bility Control of Diagonal Type MHD Generator Connected to Power Network

§A study on transient stability of a commercial -scale diagonal type MHD generator are carried out to investigate a control method for stability improvement of inter connecting system under power line fault condition. We propose and investigate a new method of transient stability under the power line fault condition for the MHD generator through time dependent numerical simulations of a total interconnecting system bet ween the MHD generator and the electric power transmission network. The time -dependent behavior of the diagonal type MHD generator is calculated by using the simulation code developed by the authors in which the quasi -one -dimensional time -dependent equati ons of the plasma flow are taken into account in the MHD generator by applying the cylindrical coordinate system. It is made clear from several calculations that the proposed control method can stably return the MHD generator back to the condition of hig her control angle from the reduced control angle of inverter by using the optimal rising ratio of the control angle after reconnecting the faulted line.
