The simulation study on line protection of HVDC transmission system

This paper introduces the causes of line fault and expounds traveling wave protection and the criterion of protection action. Then establishes the simulation model of HVDC transmission system based on PSCAD/EMTDC, by which the line fault under different transition resistance and fault distance are simulated. Combined with the actual configuration and setting value of the line protection to analyze, the results show that the sensitivity of the terminal grounding fault caused by the one side protection input become poor. Therefore, it is proved that the two station configuration protection mode chosen in this project is suitable for operational settings of line protection, and the line protection can be operated correctly in the event of a fault. The simulation results also verify the reliability of the line protection setting and provide technical support for the operation of the line protection.
