Production of high value-added chemicals by engineering methylotrophic cell factories

2021
Abstract Production of high value-added chemicals from organic one-carbon compounds, such as methanol or methane, is of great value and significance. Methylotrophs, which use C1 compounds as the sole carbon and energy source, have attracted widespread interest of chemists and biologists. With the development of genome sequencing and various omics technologies, as well as the improvement of genetic manipulation or genome editing tools, methylotrophs have been successfully developed into the cell factory to produce high value-added chemicals. In this chapter the recent research progress of the production of high value-added chemicals from one-carbon compounds, especially methanol by engineering methylotrophic cell factories, was reviewed.
