Hapten-specific cellular immuneresponseproducing glomerular injury

SUMMARY A new modelofexperimental glomerulonephritis (GN)inwhicha cell-mediated (delayed-type) reaction predominated wasestablished. Cationized TNP-BSAconjugates wereplanted inthekidney ofratsbyperfusion viatherenal artery. Ratswhichhadbeensensitized withtheTNPhapten 7days previously revealed markedexudative andproliferative changes intheir glomeruli, accompanied by transient proteinuria. A cellular influx was seenwithout deposition ofanyautologous antibody. The resulting data arecompatible withtheideathatcell-mediated immunereactions canparticipate in tissue damageinglomerular disease.
