2010
We report a case of a thirty one years old man coming from an oftalmological hospital with red eye syndrome diagnosis secondary to trauma ocurred fifteen days before. The patient presented red eye syndrome, exophtalmos and mild ophtalmoparesia. Cerebral angiography showed a right direct carotid-cavernous fistula, absence of cerebral flow from right internal carotid artery and a minimal flow through anterior communicating artery from left internal carotid artery. We ocluded it through a transarterial route with two detachable baloons. Post-operative angiography showed intracerebral right internal carotid artery flow, fistula s closured and ophtalmological and oculomotor complete function recovery. Forty years after its first description and nevertheless a lot of technological advances and multiple surgical approaches to cavernous sinus describe, ballons are still considered the best choice treatment for this desease because is a minimal invasive technique due its short duration and rapid clinical recuperation.
