Exploring the dominant-hand effect using a multi-scale SEMG energy model
2015
Hand dominance is an important factor in the performance of motor skills. Our previous study proposed a multi-scale SEMG energy model called a MSWEV graph to explore the dominant-hand effect and the associated changes with myofascial pain. However, in that study only the right-handed subjects were recruited. To further verify our proposed model, this preliminary study recruited both right-handed and left-handed subjects to compare their results. The graphs from the left-handed subjects revealed an inverted pattern in comparison with those from the right-handed subjects. In addition, significant correlation was found between the patterns derived from two successive trails by the same subject. These results verify the reliability of the proposed model to investigate the energy expenditure incurred by different type of motor units during a particular physical activity.
