Overview of key indicators for the categorisation and characterisation of distribution grids

2021
Due to various external influencing factors as well as different planning and operating principles of system operators, there is a multitude of distribution grid structures in the electrical energy system. This leads to a more difficult reproducibility of system analysis results, which is especially hindering in energy research. In order to improve the reproducibility of results in the future, this paper presents an overview of key indicators that can be used to classify electrical grids and describe their characteristics. This should ensure that, e.g., only grids with similar properties are compared with each other with regard to their results from grid analyses. Furthermore, it shall enable grid type specific evaluations of analysis results, e.g. if a special control algorithm performs better in one grid category than in another. Among other uses, these evaluations can also be beneficial for specific network regulation issues.
