Comment on “Deep structure, recent deformation and analog modeling of the Gulf of Cadiz accretionary wedge: Implications for the 1755 Lisbon earthquake”, by Gutscher et al. 2009

Abstract Gutscher et al. (2009b) address a very interesting and unsolved problem, which is the continuation of the Azores–Gibraltar plate boundary to the E of the Gorringe Bank. This comment comprises three parts: (1) short introduction to the geologic setting; (2) comment on the analogue modelling, the relationship of the setup with the prototype, and the relationship of the experimental results with the prototype; (3) short discussion of proposed subduction to the E.
