Investigation of nanozeolite-doped holographic structures for sensing volatile organic compounds (Conference Presentation)

Development of sensors for detection of volatile organic compounds (VOC) have a high demand in food storage applications, medical industries and in detection of leaks in industrial distribution lines. In this work, theoretical and experimental studies of a sensor based on transmission volume and surface holograms functionalized with MFI type nanozeolites studies towards different VOCs such as methanol, ethanol, toluene and acetone are presented. The gas sensing response of the different hologram configurations has been investigated using a custom-designed optical gas sensor setup suitable for different gas exposure conditions. The role of the zeolite nanoparticles has been studied by measuring the spectral response and diffraction efficiency changes under exposure to analytes with different molecular size and polarizability. This allows an optimum sensitivity, response time, selectivity, repeatability and reversibility of the sensors to be achieved.
