Synthesis and characterization of schiff base derivatives of bimetallic [Mg(II); Al(III)]-μ-oxoisopropoxide

2004
The reactions of bimelatlic-μ-oxoisopropoxide [MgO 2 Al 2 (OPr i ) 4 ] with schiff bases (HLL') viz. salicylidene-aniline (HSalan), salicylidene-o-toluidene (HSaltoln) or salicylidene-p-chloroaniline (HSalcan) in the molar ratios 1:1, 1:2 and 1:3 yields compounds of the type [MgO 2 Al(OPr j ) 3 (LL')], [MgO 2 Al 2 (OPr i ) 2 (LL') 2 ] and [MgO 2 Al 2 (OPr i )(LL') 3 ] (where LL' is deproptonated Schiff's base) respectively. The schiff base derivatives of bimetallic [Mg(II);Al(III)]-μ-oxoisopropoxide have been characterized by elemental analysis, molecular weight measurements, and spectral studies (IR, 'H NMR 2 7 Al NMR). A dimeric structure for 1:1 and 1:2 and a monomeric structure for 1:3 schiff base derivatives of bimetallic[Mg(II);Al(III)]-μ-oxoisopropoxide have been tentatively proposed.
