2P-418: Spray assisted nano-Li 4 Ti 5 O 12 /MWNTs microspheres for excellent performance lithium ion batteries

2016
Spinel Li4Ti5O12 has attracted much attention as an anode material for lithium-ion batteries of its good Li-ion intercalation reversibility and extremely small structural changes during charge/discharge cycling. Despite these advantages, Li4Ti5O12 is not quite ready for commercial use because of its low conductivity, which in turn leads to a poor rate capability. MWNTs(multi-wall carbon nanotube) have unique 1D tubular structure and high electrical conductivity. Therefore, they can obviously increase the rate capability especially working at high current densities. In this study, we report a one-pot synthesis of Li4Ti5O12/MWNTs microspheres, wherein the initial Li-Ti-O/MWNTs precursor is fabricated by the spray drying method in the presence of all precursors in a solution. Upon sucsequent heat treatment, phase-pure Li4Ti5O12/MWNTs microspheres were succesfully synthesized.
