Tool Wear and Microcrack Formation in the Machining of Medium-Carbon Bearing Steels

2020
The tool wear and microcrack formation in the machining of medium-carbon bearing steels are studied experimentally for the example of ШХ15-ШД and 75ХГСФ steels. Numerous features of the wear of polyhedral single-use inserts with a wear-resistant coating are noted. Different behavior is observed for the two types of bearing steel. To determine the roughness of the machined surface, its dependence on the machining conditions—the cutting speed, supply, and cutting depth—is studied experimentally. The experimental data permit practical recommendations.
