Hydrocyclone Sand Separation

2007
The aim of this research was to find out which factors affect hydrocyclone sand separation at higher consistencies. Spruce groundwood (GW), spruce thermomechanical (TMP), birch and pine kraft pulps were studied with industrial cleaners. The effects of pressure drop, consistency, pulp type, fibre properties and flocculation were considered. An increase in the former makes particle movements more difficult by locking the particles within the fibre network, while an increase in the latter enhances particle movement because the separation network is less dense with weaker zones between the flocs.
