Perennial cankers on trunks of Quercus rubra planted in Germany affect trees from age 30 onward. Symptoms and histopathology are presented and compared with other major causes of bark disorders on Red Oak in Europe. Infection trials with the causal agent, Pezicula cinnamomea (DC.) Sacc., are described and pathogenesis of the disease is discussed along with predisposing factors.
