ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS OF AN EXPANDING CARIBBEAN PORT GRAND CAYMAN, BRITISH WEST INDIES

2001
The planned procedure of the replacement and expansion of the existing storm damaged dock in George Town, Grand Cayman, is discussed in this paper. The permitting process required the analysis of several coastal and environmental aspects of the work. The Environmental Impact Report (EIR) included the results of hydrographic and biological surveys, wave refraction analyses, sediment transport analyses, cultural resource investigations, reviews of applicable dredging techniques, and alternate design studies. The findings of the EIR show that the project would have minimal environmental impact.
