2-Chloro-5-methylpyridine was prepared from 2-amino-S-methylpyridine in 74.8% yield by the reaction of diazotization and chlorinated pyrolysis under catalysis of cuprous chloride. The optimum reaction conditions were achieved as follows:n (2-amino-5-methylpyridine): n(hydrochloric acid)=1:3, n (2-amino-5-methylpyridine ) :n (sodium nitrite )1:1.1, diazotization temperature 0S CC, chlorination at 45℃/8h.
