Comparison of static and thermal stress analysis on Mg AZ-63 textured and untextured material surfaces

Abstract Sustainable manufacturing techniques like developing the latest cutting tool, redesigning the geometry, coating at various thickness levels, and surface texturing are proved to be supportive pathways. Recently, researchers were focused on finding the suitable mono and hybrid texture patterns either at the micro- or nano-level followed by the direction of textures (parallel, perpendicular, and inclined) for the performance enhancement in various applications. Magnesium alloys are finding its applications in bio-implants and structural applications. In the present study, the static stress and thermal stress analysis are carried out on magnesium alloy flat surfaces with and without texture pattern using Ansys®. The micropattern holes or dimples were modelled on the surface of 25 × 25 × 5 mm (sample) dimensions. The variation in the stress and temperature are compared at different applied force/load, dimple diameters and temperatures. The analysis results were also compared with the un-textured surface with the same simulation conditions.
