Effects of hyperbaric oxygenation during formation of liver cirrhosis

2003
Objective To investigate the preventive and therapeutic effects of hyperbaric oxygenation on liver cirrhosis. Methods A total of 75 Wistar rats were randomized into 5 groups: normal pressure oxygenation group (group A), 2.0 ATA oxygenation group (group B), 2.5 ATA oxygenation group (group C), 2.5 ATA baric control group (group D) and liver cirrhotic control group (group E). After the periodic therapy during the preparation of liver cirrhosis, liver function and pathohistological examination was performed. Results The liver function was perfected by 2.5 ATA oxygenation and was partially improved in other 4 groups (P0.05). There were some pathohistological changes between group E and groups A, B and C. Conclusions During the formation of toxin induced liver cirrhosis, hyperbaric oxygenation can delay the deveopment of the cirrhosis by improving the aerobic metabolism.
