Guidance of nuclear power plant code development

Abstract This chapter serves as an entry-level guidance for nuclear power plant code development. It starts with the introduction of the basic concepts of a nuclear power plant code as well as the classification, development process, and skills required for code development. Then, it covers the code development of two key components (i.e., reactor and pressurizer) of a pressurized water reactor nuclear power plant as demonstration examples, detailing their model development, numerical scheme, and verification. In addition, some source code of numerical algorithms using in these two codes has been presented. This chapter helps the beginners to have a more comprehensive understanding of nuclear power plant code development.
