Analytical chemistry of uranium(III). III. Determination of uranium(III) by the absorbance in the uv-region of the spectrum

1973
The absorption of light by hydrochloric solutions of uranium (III) has been studied as a function of HCl concentration. Two intensive absorption maxima at 348 nm ( epsilon = 1682 plus or minus 30) and 319 nm ( epsilon = 1610 plus or minus 30) have been observed. The optical density of uranium (III) solutions does not depend on HCl concentration within 0.1 and 3 M. A method is suggested for determining uranium (III) in solutions by its absorption at 348 nm. Uranium (IV, alkali and alkaline earth elements as well as Mg, Al, Zr, Th and La do not interfere. (auth)
