Analysis on attendants seeking HIV voluntary counseling and testing in Xi’an from 2008 to 2011

Objective Learning the characteristics and testing status of attendants seeking voluntary counseling and testing(VCT)on acquired immune deficiency syndrome(AIDS)from 2008to 2011.Methods Using EXCEL to sort out the historical data,and SPSS 19.0for data analysis.Results 32 802people received VCT in Xi’an from 2008 to 2011.Of the total male accounted for 61.8%,70.0% aged 20-39years old,married and had spouse accounted for 62.2%,39.2% had junior high school education.Of the reasons of seeking for VCT,non-marital sex accounted for 40.8%,and male homosexual sex accounted for 2.1%.From 2008to 2011,the proportion of nonmarital sex were 31.4%,29.5%,45.6%,and 50.0%,respectively and male homosexual sex were 0.8%,1.1%,2.4%,and 3.3%(Linear-by-linear associationχ2=348.502,P=0.000),respectively.The rate of testing was 94.0% among VCT attendants,and the number of positives was 291,and the positive rate was 0.94%.Among 291 positives,the main reasons for seeking VCT were male homosexual sex(34.0%)and non-marital sex(26.5%).Conclusions The number of VCT attendants and the rates of HIV testing and HIV positive increase in Xi’an.Young males are the major part in seeking counseling.The main reason for seeking VCT is non-marital sex,the proportions of non-marital sex and men who have sex with men(MSM)are growing,MSM is the largest population among positives whom need to be focused on.
