Subcutaneous Fungal Infections

2020
Abstract Subcutaneous fungal infections are mycoses involving the skin and the subcutaneous tissues, mainly occurring in tropical and subtropical countries. Some fungi may cause different diseases, according to their aspect in the tissue. Other diseases are not mycoses but have historically been studied within this group due to former mistaken classifications, such as actinomycetoma. Since 2017, mycetoma, chromoblastomycosis and other deep mycoses have been included on the World Health Organization׳s list of neglected diseases, what may aid in the visibility of these diseases, especially considering that most affected patients are in developing countries.
