Compressive and Entrapment Neuropathies of the Upper and Lower Extremities
2009
This condition is produced by the impingement of the suprascapular nen e at the scapular notch or spinoglenoid notch. Proximal entrapment at the scapular notch results in compression of the suprascapular nerve and denervation of both the supraspinatous and infraspinatous muscles. Distal entrapment at the spinoglenoid notch results in compression of the infraspinatous nerve and denervation of the infraspinatous muscle only. Etiologies include paralabral cysts, scapular fractures, hematomas, rotator-cuff tears, overhead activities, soft-tissue and osseous tumors, vascular malformations, thickened transverse scapular or spinoglenoid ligaments, and iatrogenic factors.
