The important application of molecular beacon technology in the ABO blood group genotyping

Objective The detection of ABO blood group is quite important in medical and foren-sic sciences .Our study was aimed to establish an accurate detection of ABO blood group by testing human biological samples other than blood .Methods In this study , we collected three kinds of human biologi-cal samples , i .e ., mouthwash , hair , and nails , extracted DNA by using saturated sodium chloride method , and detected blood group genotype by molecular beacon .Results By this protocol , we get ge-nomic DNA from all the three sample kinds successfully .Molecular beacon can genotype the ABO gene and distinguish the homozygous and heterozygous accurately .The result is consistent with the results of the conventional immunological method .Conclusion Our research demonstrated that ABO blood group can be detected accurately through the DNA of non-blood biological samples by molecular beacon , which is a rap-id and reliable genotyping approach .
