Carbonate compounds, intermediates, their preparation and use

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a phosphorylcholine group-containing cyclic carbonate compound bearing a phosphorylcholine group and a cyclic carbonate group in the molecule, a modifying agent comprising the compound for introducing a phosphorylcholine group by subjecting the compound to a ring-opening addition reaction with a compound bearing a primary or secondary amine, and a modifying method. SOLUTION: The cyclic carbonate compound is represented by formula (1). The cyclic carbonate compound is useful as a modifying agent for introducing a phosphorylcholine group into, for example, a primary or secondary amine.
