Design and Implementation of a Multi-Input Single-Output DC-DC Converter

Multi-input converters (MICs) have a high regard for integration of different of the energy sources utilized in electric vehicle (EVs) and grid applications. Further, it gives the most economic operation and improves the performance of the system over the conventional solutions that employ multiple single converters in multi-input applications. Hence, different types of MICs are presented in literature. In this topologies, energy sources are utilized individually or simultaneously based upon a time-multiplexing scheme due to this, duty cycle is restricted which limits the output voltage and energy sources utilization. In order to overcome the aforementioned drawbacks, a multi-input single-output (MISO) boost converter is proposed in this paper. It can improve the output voltage and utilization of energy sources with reduction in part count. In addition, there is no scope of the flow of circulating currents between the unequal voltage sources which are operating at a time, also concerned about source fault tolerant operation. The proposed converter is simulated in MATLAB environment. Low power prototype circuit (200W) is developed and experimental results are validate with simulation results.
