Experimental Research on Laser Overlaying of HSS-like Metal on Hot Die Steel H13

HSS-like metal was directly obtained on hot die steel H13 by laser overlaying. A 2~3mm thick HSS-like surfacing layer with high hardness and high wear-resistance was obtained on H13 steel by laser overlaying on a automatic wire-feeding system using special wire.The structure of the surfacing layer was analyzed using optical microscope,SEM and XRD,and its hardness was measured.The results show that carbides with high microhardness form in overlaying layer, and there is metallurgical bonding between the overlaying layer and the matrix.The average hardness of overlaying layer is 922HV.The study indicates that it is feasible to directly laser overlaying HSS-like alloy on hot die steel.
