Renal transplantation has led to an unprecedented advance in the survival and independence of dialysis-dependent patients with end-stage renal failure. With this has developed a better understanding of the immunology of transplant survival and rejection and of the complications and their management during and following surgery. This chapter aims to provide information on complications, risks, and consequences of renal transplantation. For information on associated procedures, refer to the relevant chapter or volume.
