Development of a Particle Identification System of Pions, Kaons, and Protons with the Momentum Range of 1 to 10 GeV/c

A particle identification system of pions, kaons, and protons with the momentum range of 1 to 10 GeV/c is being developed. It is composed of 3 silica aerogel Cherenkov counters, 2 $CO_{2}$ gas Cherenkov counters, a time-of-flight counter, and nuclear emulsions. This detector includes aerogel whose refractive index is extremely low. To confirm this aerogel has sufficient light emission amount to be included in the detection part, the number of photoelectrons obtained from it is measured.
