Among the pests of stored corn, Sitophilus zeamais is considered the main and its control is often accomplished with chemicals, causing toxicity to humans, animals and the environment. Currently, the use of plants with insecticidal properties has been widely studied against this and other pests. Given the above, the aim of this study was to investigate the insecticidal activity of Momordica charantia L. hydroalcoholic extract against S. zeamais. The experiment was conducted at Seed Analysis Laboratory, Federal University of Campina Grande, Campina Grande, Paraiba, under uncontrolled conditions of temperature, relative humidity and photoperiod. The insects were submitted directly to the M. charantia extract at doses 0.0, 2.0, 4.0, 6.0, 8.0 and 10.0 mL, through spraying, using for this the Potter tower. The evaluation was made 24 hours after application of the extract, registering the number of dead insects in each treatment, transforming percentage (mortality). The experiment was arranged in a completely randomized design. Data were subjected to variance and regression analysis at 5% probability. Mortality was also corrected by Abbott's method (1925). The M. charantia hydroalcoholic extract showed insecticidal activity against S. zeamais with mortality rates ranging from 6.0 to 100.0%.
