Solid state reaction of MoO3–CeO2 complex oxide studied by Raman spectroscopy

2011
Abstract The effects of MoO 3 content and calcination temperature on the solid-state reaction of MoO 3 –CeO 2 complex oxide were studied by Raman spectroscopy and XRD. Depending on the MoO 3 content, molybdenum oxide species were found to exist as the highly dispersed molybdate, crystalline Ce 8 Mo 12 O 49 and Ce 2 Mo 4 O 15 for the MoO 3 –CeO 2 complex oxide calcined at 500 °C resulting from the solid-state reaction between MoO 3 and CeO 2 . Such a solid–state reaction is promoted at higher temperature. However, Ce 2 Mo 3 O 13 is observed for 20% MoO 3 –CeO 2 sample under O 2 atmosphere, which indicates Ce 2 Mo 3 O 13 is formed firstly and then it is transformed into Ce 8 Mo 12 O 49 at higher temperature during the solid-state reaction.
