Process for the preparation of 2,7-octadiene-1-ol

The present invention relates to the telomerization of butadiene for the production of 2,7-octadiene -1-ol. The present invention provides a new process for the preparation of 2,7-octadiene -1-ol from butadiene and water comprising a step (i) of bringing the butadiene into contact at a temperature between 50 ° C and 120 ° C under CO2 pressure with a composition comprising: - from 60% to 85% by weight relative to the total weight of the composition, a compound of formula (I) or one of their mixtures - at least one saturated quaternary hydrogen carbonate - at at least one catalyst comprising a noble metal chosen from platinum or palladium, preferably palladium, and a ligand of this metal chosen from phosphines, allylic quaternary phosphonium salts, phosphites or phosphinites, these ligands carrying at least two sulfonate functions; and from 12% to 30% by weight of water relative to the total weight of the composition, and obtaining a solution (a) comprising octadienol. The present invention also relates to a process for the telomerization of butadiene for the production of 2,7-octadiene-1-ol in which the content of palladium in the 2,7-octadiene-1-ol extracted from solution (a) is reduced at a very low level.
