Somatic Embryogenesis in Wheat

1990
In vitro approaches offer very powerful new tools for plant improvement (see Bajaj 1986a). However, reliable and highly efficient procedures for regeneration of plants from cultured tissues, cells and protoplasts are a prerequisite for applying these new techniques to agriculture, horticulture and forestry. As wheat is the most important crop in the world, and has the greatest harvested area and total production (FAO 1985), consistent procedures of plant regeneration from cultured tissue and protoplasts of wheat are of special significance.
