Historia y canon literario: Um pesadelo que aprendemos a repetir. Boca do Inferno e Agosto sob a vigilância de Respiración artificia

The article proposes a contrastive reading of Ana Miranda’s Boca do Inferno and Rubem Fonseca’s Agosto as historical novels that appeals to a fact of the past to intervene on the immediate present through the literary exercise. In order to restore the inscription of Brazil within Latin American literature, the comparison between the two works is based on the appeal to Ricardo Piglia’s Respiracion artificial, who carries out a similar practice from the history and literature of Argentina, also appealing to certain aspects of the police genre that are lateral in Miranda’s novel and central in Fonseca’s. The link between Brazilian novels is drawn, then, based on the “epistemological surveillance” provided in this case by the Argentine text, which, while controlling the comparison, postulates a mode of participation of Brazil in the Latin American order
